Ten tips for your very FIRST thrift shop trip
You know I love thrifting. And I think anyone can be successful at it! Maybe your have a Goodwill or Salvation Army near you or just a local consignment shop! Here would be my tips for anyone's first visit.
1. You can go in with a plan or without one. I like NOT having a plan and seeing what I find. I tend to be more lucky that way. But others like a plan!
2. Thrifting is like fishing. Sometimes you will catch fish. Othertimes you won't. But it's all about the ~experience.~ Go in excited. Have a fun beverage in hand. Headphones in listening to your fave music or a podcast. And get to sifting!
3. Learn how to decipher what will fit you and what won't-- in case there aren't dressing rooms. Some Goodwills are without. For instance- this would be how to decipher if shorts would fit you.
4. Shop OUT of season when you can. Like right now is the prime time to get your jackets and sweaters for Fall and Winter. And the loot is plenty!! You can find a LOT right now.
5. Men's section button-downs and sweaters. A must visit.
6. Purses and belts. Great way to update the wardrobe and you can usually find some fun ones you might otherwise buy unless it was discounted like this. ALL of my belts except ONE in my closet right now are thrifted.
7. There are sooooo many dresses at Goodwill. That's a good rack to start on.
8. KITCHENWARE. Please check out everything they would have for your dream tablescapes. And things like vases, beautiful bowls and plates, etc.
9. Artwork and saving money on frames. I either buy a piece for the whole thing. OR I throw away the frame and keep what's in it and pick another frame at home. Or sometimes I buy something just for the frame alone! Frames are expensive as heck- you can save a lot of money on frames at the Goodwill!
10. BOOKS. I have found so many coffee table books and even books that I've just wanted to read period at my local thrift shops. If you have a book case you want to fill up or a coffee table that could use some books... DEF consider thrifting!
Let me know what you score!! I'm invested!
