Autoimmune people are some of the healthiest people in the world

Autoimmune people are some of the healthiest people in the WORLD. They engage in some of the healthiest practices and behaviors and they do it consistently.
That person you know who invests a lot of time and money and care into their health— quite possible they are autoimmune lol.
***And I am not saying only autoimmune people live healthy lives! I hope it didn’t come across that way <3
But yes- Autoimmune people are some of THEE healthiest because we have to be.
This is our truth as people who are autoimmune: To ever feel close to “normal” again we have to live in a way that we never pictured before. Funnily enough, we actually can’t “live normal” if we want to “feel normal.”
We gotta go against the grain of what's considered normal. At least in the U.S. And I do love the U.S! We’re just way too lenient on things like seed oils, GMOs, antibiotics, fake sugar, a pill for every ill, etc.
So for us living in the US— being autoimmune and trying to heal means basically taking what the gov tells us to do... and straight up doing a U-turn. Going the other way. Big med and big food (often) sends autoimmune people into a spiral. Big food poisons us and big medicine doesn’t know how to really help us.
The way autoimmune peeps live life can often come across as borderline wacky or even obsessive to a person who is still “healthy” and can still do whatever they wanna do. Things that affect us a LOT only affect them a LITTLE (Until their bodies hit a wall which God willing they won’t.)
But because they don’t need to be as “extreme” as we do, they view us as well, extreme. (Personally I think there is a way to keep up being healthy and not living in an extreme manner, but I digress!)
It can look extreme.
We have to be super strict about the foods we eat.
We have to work extra hard in supporting our detox systems.
We gotta keep up with the routine bloodwork.
We need extra sleep.
We have certain functional or naturopathic health practices we rely on. (Red light, acupuncture, herbals, etc.)
We have to rewire our brains to handle stress better because we don’t have the luxury of stress just affecting us mentally anymore. Too much stress handled poorly and we are back to experiencing full-blown symptoms.
So we can come across as strict and out there but to us, when we really get into health and wellness and start understanding what it means to be autoimmune and healthy, we just view it as doing whatever it takes to take care of our bodies. A lot of us even say how we’d still continue to live this way even if we weren’t autoimmune because we benefit in soooo many other ways.
And after some time it doesn’t really feel extreme anymore and often becomes an even JOYFUL way of life.
I think where it’s hard for us, and makes us grieve our past life from time to time… is the realization that we can’t take our foot off the gas pedal for too long. Because we start to sick again.
While the “average person” may have an indulgent day or two days a week and be totally fine— We can get away with maybe a FEW of those days a MONTH. Some of us even that is a stretch.
So what you have because of this are people who are mentally quite strong. Strong because we have to choose to put in the effort day in and day out. We have to kindly say no a lot— and often during times we want to say yes. Our trust in ourselves has to be there- we have to constantly choose our health long term over giving into what we want in the moment.
We also have to convince ourselves not to quit. If we give up then we will spend more days unwell than well. With this comes an acceptance we’ve had to make that we need to find peace and joy in this “healthy” lifestyle because if we don’t, we’ll start to resent our lives.
Eeeees a lot!
I also pray that people can learn about how common it is to be diagnosed with an autoimmune condition these days. The rate of diagnoses goes up each year and that should ring some alarm bells. It’s interesting to note that the way a lot of autoimmune people live today could be exactly how people could PREVENT becoming autoimmune if they ever tried it themselves.
I’m proud of us little autoimmune cuties.
And I’m just going to say it— I do see us healing. I know it takes a lot. A lotttt of trial and error and time. But as a whole, I have real hope. I think what we’re doing is working and I think we’re going to heal. I hear so many success stories. I believe God has given us so many healing modalities. Speaking of God- I know HE heals and He gives us everything we need to have a rich life.
No matter your beliefs, Stay hopeful- don’t give up. <3
